Agenda Items:

1)  Approval of minutes from May meeting – All  The minutes were approved as written.

2)  Basket Bonanza PC “Entry” – Cindy  Thank you for your contributions.  Our basket is full of $300.00 worth of gift cards.  It is an awesome basket that we are calling “the wine, dine and play basket.

3)  Worship Commission Representation – All  The Worship Commission has moved their meetings to Tuesday evenings.  Cindy, Barb and Jane will represent us this year.

4)  Parishioner “Concerns”  - All
Doors, e-mail, Internet access, “cry room”  Rose – should doors to sanctuary be opened or closed before Mass?  Is there a standard?  Fr. Mark – should be closed to encourage prayer.  Scott thinks they should be open as a sign of welcoming.  Ray – it’s a toss up where the noise is coming from; gathering space or church.  Fr. Mark -take it to the Worship Commission.  Kathy – it would be a nice article for the Eagles’ Wings.  Our delegates will take it to the Worship Commission.

Some people on Pastoral Council do not get all the e-mails.  Fr. Mark – will take it to our cyber committee.  Rose – why can’t we get wireless at church?  Do we need a stronger or better router?  Kathy – I’ll talk to Debbie about it and the company we use.  Parishioners should be able to sign up on line at church.  Kathy – we have it here (Offices), in the pavilion, we need it in church.

Why don’t we have a cry room?  Fr. Mark – when the church was built, there was a directive from the Archbishop – “no cry room”.  People complain that when there is a crying baby, they cannot hear.  Fr. Mark – in 2010 there will be a new missalette and everyone will have a missal to follow along even if he/she cannot hear.

Tanzania Promise – Letters have gone out updating everyone on their contributions.  We will do a presentation in Church in September.

5)  Annual Items – All
a.   Calendar 2009 – 2010    Officer Discernment will be held September 8 in the Chapel.  If not, Rose will e-mail everyone.  Our April meeting will be on March 29, 2010 due to Easter.  UPDATE – because of Holy Week, we will need to revisit our April meeting date.

b.   New Council Roster – Will e-mail next month.

c.    Bylaws  We need to update the by-laws to reflect what we are actually doing.  Please e-mail Rose about items you notice in the by-laws that need to be changed.

d.    Pastoral Council Covenants  Signed by all members present.

Chris – I will be missing three meetings.  I am a prison minister and have been asked to take the chaplaincy course which will run Sept. – Dec.  Rose- If you have any input, please e-mail me.  I think it’s great what you are doing.

6)  Fr. Mark’s Comments  We are celebrating the tenth anniversary of our Church in October.  We will rename the upstairs hall “Favret Hall” on Sunday Oct. 11.  I want Pastoral Council to read the material I passed out – a new way of doing PC.  A new model.  We will discuss it in October.  Please read and see if this is something we should do here.  Children’s Hospital uses this type of management style.  The thinking is that sixty people can be a broader representation of a parish than fifteen PC members.  At Good Shepherd Parish, anyone who is head of a ministry is a member with three-year terms.  I want to get PC’s idea about this to see if this is viable for us.  Good Shepherd Parish has discerned that this is the way they should go.  Our October meeting should be about nothing but this.  I will bring the Pastoral Staff in to be part of the discussion.  You have experience that I don’t have and can come up with groups that are under- or over-represented.  Someone who is not a member of the Parish is facilitator at Good Shepherd.  The parishes are getting bigger, and this may be a better way to represent all the members.  Children’s Hospital has great success with this model.  You can send me your ideas or bring them in writing.  It is a larger group that gets together in a different kind of way.  In the context of prayer.   John – would you be dissolving this group?  Fr. Mark – It would take some time to accomplish the transition.  There are not elections – there are appointments.

Debbie – All the festivals have done well this year due to “stay-cations”.  Rose – I would like to do a post-survey of worker this year to, hopefully, improve the experience for them next year.
