April Web Committee Meeting Minutes - April 25, 2006

Attendees: Brett, Debbie, Greg, Doug, Steve

We welcomed Doug Kelley to the committee. We look forward to working with him. Here's what we discussed:

There is a problem with the Calendar. The Home page no longer displays the current day's calendar items. Since we are working on moving to the drupal web site, this is a low priority to fix.

There is also a problem with the Articles tool in the CMS. Brett is going to see if we can replace the article Editor with a newer version to see if that corrects the problem.

We again spent much of the meeting working with the new web site that uses the web management tool called drupal - the new page is located at http://drupal.stjohnwc.org. We looked at the info that has been copied to the new site and discussed the different features that we are using so far. We added some new modules. We discovered that when you add a module, you need to grant access to the various roles on the drupal web site using the Administer link. We switched the directions link to point to a Google map. Eventually we should use the drupal map module.

We are continuing to split up some of the work on developing the new web site:

Greg volunteered to create the forums and blogs.

Steve is going to continue copying the Parish Info pages to the new web site. He will try to get the Campus Map slide show to work. Then other slide shows could be setup. Brett is going to continue to work on the overall structure of the new web page and figuring out the best way to make it work for us. He'll also work on the Bulletin, Eagle's Wings, etc uploads.
Debbie is going to register for the new web site and start to use it to see how it works and advise us as a user for how the new site works.

Doug is going to compare the current web site to the drupal web site to determine what pages still need to be moved to the drupal web site.

This new tool has many available features and will have new features as drupal expands. Once we have converted to the new tool, we should be able to start working on enhancing the web site and using as many of the standard drupal tools as possible.

We will plan creating the initial drupal web site with links back to the current web site as needed. This should allow us to switch to the new web site sooner.

Doug noted that we need to make it clearer on the web site where to send feedback when there are problems on the web site or useful suggestions.

We need to set the dates for the meetings in the coming year. Greg sent the committee and email message to vote for the preferred day (second Monday, second Tuesday, third Monday, third Tuesday). Please respond with your vote by April 30th so that we can meet the deadline for meeting requests of May 1st.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 16, 2006 in Undercroft E. At this meeting, the goal will be to set a launch date for the new site.
